Sean Carlow and his team from Stars on Ice, based at Drummoyne in Sydney, were putting the finishing touches to preparations for the opening of the much-anticipated ice rink in Kings Parade.
He had 220 pairs of skates stacked in orderly fashion, including all the extras to make it easy for the inexperienced to enjoy the occasion.
These include small penguins that children can hold to keep them from falling over on the ice, as well as other aids that go on the skates to make them more user-friendly.
Mr Carlow said the forecast of a minus five degree start on Saturday didn't bother him.
"The actual ice rink will be kept at minus 10 degrees and when you add to that the ambience of the cold air, it's going to be pretty chilly," he said.
"Everyone seems to be really excited about having the chance to go ice skating and we're just about ready to go."
Skating sessions are 45 minutes long and will start on the hour.
Bathurst mayor Gary Rush said 4464 ice skating tickets had already been sold.
"It really has captured the imagination of the community," he said.

Council will donate $2 from every ice skating ticket sold to the Daffodil Cottage extension project.
