An NRMA spokesperson said the drop was due to pressure caused by the presence of independents and not from a lower terminal gate price.
“[It is] pressure in the local market – average regular unleaded prices in regional NSW towns fell 0.2 cents per litre last week,” they said.
Prices are expected to remain where they are, with no rises predicted to hit regional areas “for the next two weeks at least”.
Bathurst’s average unleaded price of 147.1 cents per litre puts the city in the middle of the pack in terms of Central West prices.
Orange has an average of 144.4 cents per litre, Dubbo 149.9 and Mudgee is even more expensive at 153.2 cents per litre.
The NRMA encourages residents to shop around locally for the best price or to use the Bowser Buster website – which ranks towns and cities’ petrol prices – if they intend to travel during the last week of the school holidays.
As of yesterday, the best place to buy unleaded petrol was the Metro at Perthville, where it was advertised at 138.9 cents per litre.
Those looking for the lowest price for diesel or e10 varieties yesterday could find them at 134.7 and 138.7 cents per litre respectively at the Metro on Rocket Street.
Shell retailers were displaying the most expensive prices for unleaded and e10 fuel, while a couple of the local BP retailers were charging the most for diesel.
The Western Advocate is continuing the Pump Action community campaign online to encourage people to share petrol prices.
