A NEW breed of mozzies have been invading Millthorpe but no one is reaching for the Aerogard.
The Millthorpe Mozzies have joined the Central West Junior Rugby Union Wallas competition this season and have burst onto the fields with two teams.
The under 7s and under 9s have started the year so well the club plans to enter a third team, an under 11s, in 2016.
Millthorpe Mozzies president Tim Jamieson said the mighty Mozzies may be in their first season, but had already been warmly welcomed by the community.
“This started as an idea. We’ve added some enthusiasm and now we have a club that has been embraced by local families who have travelled to games at local Gala days including Cowra, Wellington, Bathurst and Forbes,” Jamieson said.
“The Millthorpe Mozzies Rugby Club, part of the Blayney Rams, is thriving, and it’s good to see our boys’ skills are improving every week as they learn more about the fun of rugby.”
With about 20 players from Millthorpe and Blayney, the Mozzies have been busy developing their skills, training each Thursday afternoon at Redmond Oval.
Off the field, the club is preparing for next season by hosting a fundraising event - the Millthorpe Mozzies Mid Season Mayhem.
The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, July 25, at Millthorpe Public School Hall.
“Already we have received enormous generosity from local businesses and the local community who have made donations for our Mozzie Foundation Auction on the 25th, by local Millthorpe Rural Agency auctioneer Tom Campbell, which is designed to raise funds to ensure we continue to grow as a club and invest in our local community and players,” Jamieson explained.
“We are expecting a great night and already have a huge range of auction items - including a first-class rugby experience donated by the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust - four tickets to Diamond Lounge at Allianz Stadium for a NSW Waratahs fixture during the 2016 season.”
The Mid Season Mayhem will start at 5.30pm and people are asked to dress in something starting with the letter M.
