A SEVEN-year-old Portland boy has died after a single-vehicle accident on Piper's Flat Road near Lithgow on Wednesday morning.

The boy was travelling in a dual cab ute with a 30-year-old Portland woman about 7.15am when the vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree.
Emergency services including Lithgow, Portland and Wallerawang police, Lithgow Ambulance Crew, and Rural Fire Service volunteers from the Portland Brigade attended the scene and worked to free the occupants of the vehicle.
Two rescue helicopters were also called to the scene.
The seven-year-old boy was flown to Westmead Children's Hospital in a critical condition where he died a short time later.
The 30-year-old female driver suffered only minor injuries and was flown to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.
Part of Piper's Flat Road remained closed until 1pm with traffic being diverted at Range Road and Thompson Creek Road while emergency crews worked at the scene.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
