Yesterday was the biggest snowfall Max Campbell can remember in his 70 years of living in Bathurst, but snow levels came quite close to one other day in his memory.

On June 4, 1949 he and Elaine Hill were married and it was on that day Bathurst received a huge amount of overnight snow.
“I woke up, looked out the window at the paling fence and it was all under snow,” he said of his wedding day.
“It was piled up on the paling fences and the road.”
Many of his wedding guests were coming from Newbridge on the train and he remembered they wore “their old leather boots” to walk through the snow to catch the train to Bathurst.
“We had to shovel snow away from the house the morning of the wedding,” Mr Campbell said.
He looked through some of his old wedding photos yesterday of his nuptials at St Barnabas Anglican Church and none gave away what a cold day it was when he married his late wife Elaine.
But history repeated yesterday when Mr Campbell looked out his bedroom window to see his garden had turned white.
“You could not see any of the green, it was as thick as anything,” he said of the snow.
In his seven decades of living in Bathurst, Mr Campbell said he doesn’t remember many dustings of snow at his Crawford Crescent home.
“It’s just normally cold winds,” he said.
