WITH its unparalleled strength and depth, Orange City Junior Rugby Union Club has long been considered a production line for Central West and NSW Country representatives.
This year is no different, with Lions young guns Lachlan Stewart, Nick Fisher and Beau Westcott providing the club three more junior Cockatoos stars.
Stewart starred as a playmaker for NSW Country under 17 unit, which has already played against the ACT Brumbies and Sydney City under 17 sides to, potentially, round out its 2015 schedule.
“I think the Sydney side said they want to play us again,” Stewart said.
“They used to pick a NSW side out of it, but not anymore which is a bit disappointing, but there’s more age groups I can have a crack at.”
Fisher’s under 16 side took on their ACT Brumbies counterparts last weekend, going down 7-nil on the back of a heavy penalty count against them, with the game acting as perfect preparation for their city-country clash in a couple of weeks.
“We played them at the state championships for Central West, but ended up losing there [as well],” Fisher, who also starred for NSW Combined Catholic College’s under 16 team this year, said.
“I was pleased to get there really though. It was my first year in a NSW Country side.
“I just [wanted] to play at the higher level, and get some experience.”
Westcott’s under 14 side also played the Brumbies on the weekend after playing Northern Suburbs in a trial match a fortnight ago.
“It was a goal of mine just to be picked, so I’m pretty happy with [everything], it’s my first year in a NSW Country side,” he said.
“We won against Norths four tries to two which was good.”
All three were picked out of successful Central West sides, which finished fourth, third and first at their respective NSW Country Championships earlier in the year - where Stewart won back of the tournament, and Westcott won forward of the tournament.
