The Dancers Company will present a spectacular triple bill of ballet: Swan Lake Act III, Paquita and Rimbombo at Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre on Tuesday and Wednesday night.
The male and female leads will return to the Australian Ballet after passing the baton on to two new guest dancers.
Christiano said he feels like their time on tour with The Dancers Company has gone really quickly.
He said he went on tour with them when he was a student and loved it – travelling with them as a guest dancer has been just as enjoyable.
Now in its 25th year, The Dancers Company brings ballet to communities around the country, showcasing the artistry and technical skills of graduating students from The Australian Ballet School, with guest appearances by artists from The Australian Ballet.
The triple bill demonstrates the diversity of classical ballet, from the sumptuous costumes and pristine pointe work of Swan Lake Act III and Paquita, to the hilarity and athleticism of Rimbombo.
Christiano will lead the cast in Swan Lake and Paquita.
“This triple bill is really beautiful,” he said.
He believes the highlight for people in Bathurst will be Act III of Swan Lake.
“Everyone who thinks of ballet thinks of Swan Lake,” Christiano said. “I think people will also really love the beautiful costumes.”
Christiano said the thing he loves most about working with The Dancers Company is that it takes ballet out to audiences who might otherwise never see it. He said perhaps there will be a child who goes to see the ballet in Bathurst and end up studying at the Australian Ballet School.
He loved dancing from the time he was a boy, but until he went to the Australian Ballet School it was something he could not do full-time as a career.
Bathurst will also host a Dancers’ Class on Stage where audiences can watch the company as they are guided through their daily class by a member of the artistic staff.
It’s a chance to get an insight into the working life of a touring dancer, and is followed by a question and answer session with dancers and staff.
The performances will be at 7.30pm on August 4 and 5 at the Bathurst Memorial Entertainment Centre. The Dancers Class on Stage session will take place on Wednesday, August 5 at 11.30am.
