After a hard year of work, they received the award for best feature (daily newspaper) for the 2014 Carillon Business Awards feature and best sales initiative (daily newspaper) for the Bathurst Bicentenary 200 Club (which included the Advocate’s special bicentenary supplement).
Advertising manager Erin Peacock attended the sales conference, along with sales representatives Martin Russell and Kathleen Martin.
Ms Peacock said their winning publications were massive undertakings for both the sales and editorial departments, and collaboration was the key to the successful result.
“We had over 110 businesses in the 2014 Carillon Business Awards feature and 156 businesses in the Bathurst bicentenary special publication,” she said.
“It takes a huge amount of co-ordination to produce quality publications of this size and gives testament to the skill and dedication of our staff.”
In addition to the two wins, the Western Advocate had finalists in two other categories.
Mr Russell was a finalist in the best campaign category for his creative print and digital ads for Fencing and Gate Centre Bathurst, while copy co-ordinator Noni Jeffery was a finalist in best sales and admin support.
Ms Peacock added that these awards reinforce to the staff, readers and advertisers that the Western Advocate is a quality publication.
“These awards shows the quality of the products we produce across our print and digital platforms and the great work done by staff to produce quality publications for our communities,” she said.
“We always aim to provide a first rate experience for our readers and advertisers and these awards show we’re on the right track.”
