The visit was part of regional tour Out There, conducted by the ballet’s Dance Education Ensemble.
The free workshops were open to boys and girls, with 120 students from Year 2 to 6 selected to take part.
Teacher Danielle McClements said the 18 students in her Year 2 class thoroughly enjoyed the interactive demonstration and workshop.
“The activities they’re doing are the fundamental things, but they’re in such a fun way,” she said.
“The opportunity for them to come into the school and not have to go anywhere is great. Also, it didn’t cost the kids anything. It’s so lovely to see a mixture of girls and boys.”
The Australian Ballet’s Dance Education Ensemble manager Hayley Arundel said the workshops were a huge benefit for students.
“The dance movement workshop content is all about concepts relating to dance like body parts, balance and co-ordination,” she said. “They’re designed to engage boys and girls equally and no experience is necessary.”
The four ensemble dancers put on a performance for the students yesterday afternoon that reflected concepts taught during the workshops.
The Australian Ballet senior education manager Katy McKeown said the program offered students a fun, practical experience that encouraged physical and social skills through dance.
