The government made a commitment last year that every school in the state would have the flashing version of the traditional school zone signs by the end of 2015.
As of May 29, 2015, only four schools in Bathurst had the new signs.
Schools in the Bathurst Regional Council local government area (LGA) will be among 300 schools fitted with the flashing signs throughout August.
A number of other Central West LGAs, including Orange City Council and Dubbo City Council, will also receive the technology.
A spokesperson for Transport NSW said the highest risk schools will receive the signs first.
“Installation work at 19 schools in the Bathurst area is underway,” they said.
Cathedral Catholic Primary School had the new signs installed at the two intersections on George Street on Tuesday.
“George Street and Keppel Street are very busy streets and we are located at that intersection,” principal Patrick Allen said.
“Anything that will alert drivers to students in the area is a good idea.”
The Cathedral School has been in negotiations to have these signs fitted for the past 12 months and Mr Allen said parents are already noticing their effect.
“We’ve had quite a few parents talk about how good they are,” he said.
The new signs will be in operation on gazetted school days, excluding public holidays, between 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 4pm in most areas.
