Recruitment firm Workfront People Solutions at the Bathurst Business Centre is looking to fill positions for labourers, hospitality staff and cleaners to help ensure the city’s iconic motorsport event runs smoothly.

“I recruit for all the V8 Supercar events across Australia and even the Australian Formula One Grand Prix and the Bathurst 1000 is the big one,” Workfront People Solutions’ Chris Reed said.

He says the jobs will pump more than $100,000 into the Bathurst economy.

Workfront People Solutions wants to fill 220 positions for Bathurst 1000 V8 car race event staff.

This includes jobs for 120 cleaners needed for general tidying of grounds, emptying bins and cleaning toilets.

There are also 50 hospitality staff needed to work in the bar areas, but applicants must have a Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate.

As well, 50 labourers are needed to assemble marquees and scaffolding, but those who apply will need to have a White Card, work boots and high-visibility clothing.

Mr Reed said the Great Race was the single biggest casual jobs advertisement he does.

“It’s because of the huge crowds we get here and also because of the layout of Mount Panorama,” he said.

“All the other venues are pretty much flat, so they are easier to clean. 

“The Mount being the Mount means you have to have more staff to get to all the different areas. 

“You need multiple cleaners because you can’t have them walking from the top to the bottom of the place.

“Even building the marquees is a bigger job than other venues. There’s more of them and they are generally larger in size.”

Mr Reed said the jobs were brilliant for Bathurst and its economy.

“It’s good news if you’re looking for some part-time work,” he said. 

“There is more casual labour on offer than any other event. That’s 220 jobs, which means pays of about $50,000 for the labourers, another $50,000 for the cleaners and about $25,000 for the bar staff.

“The Bathurst 1000 is also the only event around the country where we use the local newspaper to recruit staff because we’ve found advertising in the Western Advocate does make a real difference.

“In fact, we started getting interest straight away after the ad ran in the classifieds. 

“We will also be liaising with Joblink Plus, who are new to the area and are strongly focussed on community involvement. The positions are generally all filled well in advance of the race.” 

The Bathurst 1000 will run from October 8-11.
