FEARS of an costly ambulance bill forced a Bathurst woman to drive her husband to hospital while she was over the legal limit, Bathurst Local Court has heard.

And magistrate Michael Allen has lent his support to the 54-year-old, saying it was wrong that such a thing could happen in Australia,
Mr Allen was hearing of a part-time cleaner who was representing herself.
She told the court she lived with her husband and cared for her elderly father and had been drinking when he husband complained of chest pains.
The woman said they could not afford an ambulance, so she had driven him to hospital and waited with him in the emergency department for four hours before driving home.
