The facility will host its inaugural Western Region Student Film Festival in November and are appealing to residents under the age of 20 years old to enter.
Entries are to incorporate the theme Dream of the Earth, which was inspired by the writings of Thomas Berry, and should be moving, funny or thought-provoking films that celebrate the natural world and raise awareness of human problems, all in under four minutes.
Sustainability educator Sally Neaves said the idea behind the film festival was to offer kids in the region the opportunity to showcase their films.
“We thought it would be a good way to connect with young people in the region,” she said.
“We wanted to make it as wide spread as possible.”
The film festival has been divided into six age group categories catering to children aged between five and 20 years old.
Five prize categories have also been included and are Best Documentary, Best Comedy, Best Music Video, Best Animation and Public Service Announcement.
There is no limit on how many entries each person can make.
Each category is open to kids of all skill levels, but those not so confident are encouraged to come along to the special three-day filmmaking workshop during the school holidays from September 23-25.
A local filmmaker will be on hand to assist.
“The holiday program is designed for the kids to come along and make a film here that will be screened at the festival,” Ms Neaves said.
The Western Region Student Film Festival will be held at 2:30pm on November 8 at Rahamim and all entries must be submitted by October 14.
