That was the summary of the 100-kilometre Oxfam Trailwalker event held on the weekend from the Awesomes Foursome Bathurst team that took part.
Bathurst Hospital theatre nurses Kath Adams, Bianca Young and Penelope Hock and former Bathurst woman Theresa Kelly started the trek – from the banks of the Hawkesbury River to Sydney’s Northern Beaches – at 9am on Friday.
Ms Young, the team leader, was the woman behind the team taking part in the trek.
“They were not happy with me. I copped it throughout the trek,” Ms Young joked of her team-mates, who admitted before the event that they were not experienced hikers.
She admitted the trek was a lot more challenging than any of them had imagined.
“You had to walk sideways between boulders and plan where every foot will go,” Ms Young said.
“I was delusional. I thought trailwalk would just be a simple trek.”
Ms Young and Ms Kelly both withdrew from the event at the 57km mark, just after midday on Saturday.
“I’m just not really fit and I knew I couldn’t finish,” Ms Young said.
Determined to get to the end, Ms Adams and Ms Hock continued on and finished their huge 100km trek at 5.07am on Sunday.
“They are in a world of hurt, but glad they did it. It was a huge accomplishment,” Ms Young said.
She thanked the team’s support crew who met them at each of the seven checkpoints through-out the three-day trek.
“As soon as we got there they’d take your shoes off and re-strap your feet,” she said.
Ms Young said she plans to return to Sydney over the next few months to complete the trek in her own time.
Undeterred, she and her fellow trekkers plan to take part in next year’s Oxfam Trailwalker and are already planning their team.
In the process, the women raised $4020 for Oxfam.
