Firefighters were called to the Yarras Lane property, 11 kilometres north-east of Bathurst, at 6.15am to find the home well alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Brett Jackson said the house was “totally destroyed” when crews arrived on the scene.
“It looked like it had been burning throughout the night and no-one had reported it,” he said.
The single-storey home was on a 30-acre property, sitting well off the road, and surrounded by other acreages.
NSW Rural Fire Service Superintendent Greg Wardle said firefighters contained the blaze within 30 minutes, but the property was a total loss.
“RFS investigators are working with police to establish a cause,” he said.
The home was located on the Starr Kennels property, which houses greyhound kennels.
No people or dogs have been reported injured.
The home was empty at the time of the fire.
Crime scene investigators spent yesterday sifting through the charred remains of the property searching for the fire’s cause and ignition point.
In a statement, NSW Police said they were alerted to the burning property after staff members arrived on the scene to find the fire.
“While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, police from Chifley Local Area Command are treating it as suspicious,” the statement said.
Police have urged anyone with information that may assist investigators to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
