Bathurst detectives yesterday revealed they had removed from the property 13 birds, including highly prized macaw parrots, with an estimated street value of more than $300,000.
The search, which also located a quantity of amphetamines and more than $100,000 in cash, was the result of an ongoing police investigation.
As yet, no one has been charged in relation to the seized birds, although police said yesterday they were the subject of ongoing investigations.
Bathurst man David Peters, 19, of Princes Street, appeared in custody before magistrate Jan Stevenson on Monday in relation to the cash and amphetamines found in the same property. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
On Monday, Ms Stevenson noted in court that the police facts showed Peters owned three of the rare and expensive macaw birds.
She was told Peters was a bird collector and the animals were not the subject of any charges.
However, Ms Stevenson said macaws were very expensive and urged police to have a “close look at the birds”.
Police yesterday said the birds were now in the custody of National Parks and Wildlife.
It will care for the animals pending the outcome of investigations and subsequent court proceedings.
