Caleb Hewitt, aged 20, of Clarinda Street, Parkes, appeared before magistrate Michael Allen in Bathurst Local Court last Monday.
Police facts tendered to the court told how at 3.35am on July 22, Hewitt crashed his car into an historic lamp standard in George Street. His vehicle subsequently rolled.
Earlier Hewitt had been drinking at a number of llicensed premises in Bathurst’s CBD before making his way to the Edinboro Castle.
At 2.45am, he left the hotel and walked to his car and proceeded to drive. Hewitt’s vehicle veered to the centre of the road in George Street and collided with a bollard which was protecting the lamp standard.
The impact of the crash bent the bollard and caused the vehicle to ride up onto the bollard and hit the historic light before rolling onto its roof in the middle of the street.
When police arrived at the scene Hewitt had already made his way out of the car.
He was questioned by police about his consumption of alcohol, and returned an alcohol reading of 0.146.
Hewitt was arrested and taken to Bathurst Police Station for a breath analysis, where he recorded a reading of 0.109.
Mr Allen convicted and fined Hewitt $550 and disqualified him from driving for nine months.
