Business development manager Chris Reed said the school needed a little bit more attention in certain areas to help make it a better environment for its students.
With the backing of the staff and members of the P and C, work was able to start at the school on September 22.
Workmen from Workfront People Solutions will be on site for six months until a number of small projects are completed.
Currently, workers are adding new mesh to the cricket nets so they are safe for children to use.
“They were never able to use the cricket nets because of how unsafe they were,” Mr Reed said.
“Now when the kids go back they can play cricket.”
In addition to the cricket nets, Workfront People Solutions will also be remodelling all of the gardens throughout the school, removing paved areas that have become trip hazards, restoring all the bench seats and installing additional ones and supplying the students with some new sports equipment.
Mr Reed said the work has been made possible due to government funding the company had received to assist a not-for-profit organisation.
“We can do it all for them and we’ve got government funding that goes with the Work for the Dole program,” he said.
“We felt the school would benefit most from the work.”
Workfront People Solutions has also sought assistance from local businesses and companies to secure further financial support for the project at Kelso Public School.
“We have quite a few people that we liaise with and that help us out,” Mr Reed said.
