Super Wednesday marks the start of the Bathurst Bicentenary Race Festival, and the CBD will stop for the V8 Supercar Transporter and Driver Parade this morning.
At 11.30am William Street will host the extensive parade of team transporters on their way to the iconic Mount Panorama.
Also this year both drivers from each of the 27 teams involved in the Great Race will join the parade in a variety of sports cars.
Bathurst mayor Gary Rush told the Western Advocate in August that having the V8 drivers involved in the parade was important.
“This is the first time since 2012 drivers have participated in the parade, and this will create even more interest in this popular event,” he said.
“The drivers are a very integral part of it all ... it used to be done years ago and we’ve worked hard to re-introduce it.”
Following the parade, V8 Supercar drivers will then take part in two signing sessions and race fans are encouraged to bring along their favourite memorabilia to be signed.
The two 45-minute sessions will be held on the Church Street side of Kings Parade starting at noon and 1pm.
Also included in Super Wednesday festivities are jumping castles, face painting and a range of activities for children.
There will be a number of road closures for today’s events.
Havannah Street will be closed between Durham Street and Kendall Avenue (Great Western Highway) from 9.30am until 11.45am.
William Street will be closed between Russell and Durham streets to traffic in both directions from 11.30am to noon.
Church Street will be closed between William and George streets from 5am until 5pm.
