A McLaren 650s, worth a cool $560,000 and boasting a 3.8 twin turbo engine with 650 horsepower, will be a crowd stopper as it hits the streets of Bathurst over the next few days,
Thanks to Trivett Bespoke, the McLaren – along with a silver Aston Martin Vanquish Volante – is on loan to Chifley local area command and will be used for community engagement with the thousands of race fans in Bathurst for the V8 races.
Western region commander Assistant Commissioner Geoff McKechnie said Trivett Bespoke had kindly provided the cars, which he expected would be a huge hit with race fans.
“Each year we try and bring a different car – we’ve had a Porsche in the past and this year we’ve been able to secure the McLaren and Aston Martin, which will no doubt give race fans a thrill,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said having the cars would give race fans the chance to look at them up close, and also engage with police on the Mount.
They were part of yesterday’s Pantec Parade, marking the beginning of Race Week, and will also feature in other events on the Mount.
“The cars will be displayed at various locations and on the track this weekend, and it’s a great opportunity for police to strike up a conversation with the people up there,” Assistant Commissioner McKechnie said. “The cars are a great ice breaker, and everyone loves super cars,” he said.
The super cars have already been used by NSW Police in many high profile campaigns this year.
Trivett Bespoke dealer principal Marc Webb said they were delighted to be associated with NSW Police.
“We are proud to have donated these specially designed McLaren and Aston Martin vehicles to the NSW Police Force for a wide range of recent fundraising events that support highly important causes,” he said.
The Aston Martin Vanquish Volante and McLaren 650S have been used to help raise awareness of the 2015 Police Legacy Wall to Wall: Ride for Remembrance, the Police Legacy Blue Ribbon Ball and the 100 years of Women in Policing celebrations.
“We hope the temporary donation of these Aston Martin and McLaren vehicles will help to drive strong awareness at key events occurring in the city of Bathurst this month,” Mr Webb said.
