Forty-nine-year-old Darren John McGill appeared before registrar Lee in Orange Local Court facing six charges.

McGill was arrested by police following the fatality, which occurred on the outskirts of Bathurst last month.

Emergency services were called to the Sofala Road at Kelso just after 6am on Monday, September 21, after a Ford Falcon and Nissan utility collided.

The front-seat passenger of the Falcon – a 42-year-old Tracey Lee Evans of Webb Street, Bathurst, died at the scene.

The driver, McGill, was taken to Bathurst Base Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. He also underwent mandatory blood and urine testing.

The 42-year-old man driving the Nissan was not injured but was taken to hospital to undergo mandatory testing.

Officers from Chifley local area command attended the accident, however, the inquiry was conducted by specialist officers from the Crash Investigation Unit.

Following these inquiries, McGill was arrested at Orange Police Station about 2.30pm on Thursday afternoon.

He was charged with negligent driving occasioning death, not give particulars to police, drive motor vehicle during a disqualification period second plus offence, two counts of larceny, and dangerous driving occasioning death [drive in a manner dangerous] strictly indictable.

McGill made no application for bail, which was formally refused. The matter is re-listed for mention on Monday, October 12 in Bathurst Local Court.
