Cameras are poised at every turn, on every garage, aimed towards race fans, and sometimes back on itself.
Representatives of media outlets across Australia, and a few international representatives, are packed into Mount Panorama’s media box, above Pit Straight.
SkySpeed senior sports anchor Stephen McIvor from New Zealand is among those who have travelled from overseas to capture the Great Race.
He said the Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama may be well known in Australia and New Zealand, but the track’s reputation is starting to grow on the world-wide stage.
“These international drivers help spread the word,” he said of the event.
He said for many international drivers, the Bathurst 1000 was on their bucket list.
“It’s like Everest, you have to climb the Mount sometime in your career or you’re a chicken,” he said. “Many think, I’d really like to do that one day.”
