The family-friendly fair is held in Kings Parade each year as part of the Bathurst 1000 race festival.

While there was drizzle on and off throughout the day, only five millimetres was recorded at Bathurst Airport.

It still resulted in a lower than expected crowd at the fair.

This year’s fair had extended hours, from noon until 8pm, to cater for the expected high numbers of people.

Stallholders were set up under a giant marquee on Russell Street which was used the night earlier for the Bathurst Bicentenary Gala Ball.

Food stalls, games, laser skirmish, a silent disco and rock-climbing remained outside.

The third and final instalment of the Illuminate Bathurst light show, featuring digital projections on a number of the city’s heritage buildings, started at dusk.

Many people took to the Bathurst200 Facebook page to share their thoughts.

Though there was criticism from some about the “explicit music” at the silent disco and the number of stalls, the night’s entertainment, which featured The Voice contestant Cath Adams and 2015 Toyota Star Maker winner Mickey Pye, fared better.

Mayor Gary Rush estimated around 2000 people came to watch the Illuminate Bathurst light show from dusk.

He added that while the crowds might not have been up to expectations in Kings Parade for the fair, many of the CBD’s restaurants and cafes remained open late due to good crowds.

Illuminate Bathurst will be on each night from dusk until Sunday, October 18.
