IN the absence of Bathurst’s harness racing meeting today, many of the city’s trainers are taking the trip to Dubbo to give their runners some racing action.

Nathan Hurst leads the way with an eight-horse attack on the Dubbo track, closely followed by Peter Bullock who takes seven to the night meeting.
The night’s major race is the C4-5 graded Radio 2DU Pace (2,120m) in which Hurst’s Spanish Lustre, going out from gate one, will get a good chance to lead the way.
Dubbo has been a remarkable track for the six-year-old gelding who hasn’t finished outside the top two in his previous four starts there.
It’s been a busy year for Spanish Lustre who has had at least three races each month going back to February but has maintained strong form across his country racing.
The race is packed with other Bathurst-trained chances including Steve Turnbull’s Attorney Stride, who has come very close to finding a win this season with no luck.
Bullock’s Signory Shannon will hope to find a first placing of the season while Ashlee Grives’ Mister Chow will look to put some disappointing results at Albion Park behind him as he looks for the win widest from the second row.
Parkes trainer Terry Powter and his runner Go Scotty will be in everyone’s sights following the stallion’s win at Bathurst last week.
Turnbull’s Mahkooloo Lasarus will be one to watch, with the four-year-old gelding looking to replicate his success on debut when he races the Daily Liberal Pace (2,130m).
Only one Bathurst runner will venture to Dubbo as a last-start winner and that’s Hurst’s Stacy Anne Maree who contests the Ladyship Pace (1,720m) to round out the night’s racing.
Seven-year-old mare Stacy Anne Maree was a massive 20m winner at Blayney last start, though she will come up against a stronger field with today’s trip to Dubbo.
Wendy Turnbull, Bernie Hewitt and Josh Turnbull will all be going around on a day that could be mistaken for a Bathurst meeting given the number of the city’s trainers making the journey.
The night’s racing at Dubbo gets underway from 6.14pm.
