Making their dancing debut will be 10 locals who have been learning a diverse range of skills with the help of three local dance schools: Bathurst Academy of Dance, Promenade Dance School and Rock and Roll Dance Group.
Tonight they will take what they have learnt to the floor for a panel of judges.
Cancer Council NSW community relations co-ordinator Bree Kelly said the event is a fun way for members of the community to engage with each other while also raising vital funds for cancer research.
“People were really receptive,” she said.
“We were able to get together 10 local stars from a range of industries, so it’s a really good representation [of the community].”
Ms Kelly said people will be in for a surprise when the contestants perform tonight as some will come out dancing with a partner while others will dance as part of an ensemble.
Dancing with four back-up dancers will be Vanessa Pringle, who revealed yesterday that she has been learning a jazz routine under the watchful eye of a “very patient” dance coach.
Ms Pringle said she wanted to participate in the contest to try something out of her comfort zone and help raise vital funds for cancer research.
“As long as I don’t get too nervous, I should be fine,” she said of her upcoming performance.
Doors will open at 6pm tonight at Bathurst Panthers for the competition.

“This is a cause that is close to so many people’s hearts ... it would be really good to see the Bathurst community come out to support these local stars who have put their dignity on the line for a really good cause,” Ms Kelly said.
