The Orange-based cook showed those attending how to make delicious, healthy food while minimising how much meat and produce is thrown away.
Learning to use ingredients effectively also saves money on a household’s grocery bill.
Ms Bracks cooked four recipes, providing step-by-step instructions and sharing a variety of helpful kitchen tips, such as how to chop ingredients without risking a nasty injury.
The audience was also given the opportunity to replicate Ms Bracks’ pizza dough recipe.
While nailing the flavour of a dish is important, Ms Bracks explained there are other elements that can raise the quality of a meal, such as texture.
However, you don’t need to follow a recipe to the letter to achieve all these things.
“The most important thing about recipes is that they can be tweaked to suit what’s in your cupboard or what you like,” Ms Bracks explained. “You can’t always follow a recipe word-for-word; ingredients change.”
NSW households waste more than $1036 worth of food each year, all of which ends up in landfill.
Ms Bracks encourages people to plan meals, write a shopping list and check what is in your kitchen before going to the grocery store, and store food correctly.
