The gym, which specialises in boxing training, is a partnership between Nathan Swadling and Luke Bennett that has been run out of Mr Swadling’s home for the past 18 months.
Due to the increasing popularity of the sport, the team has had to find a bigger location to house the gym.
Dreamtime Sports Academy will have a grand opening for the new Charlotte Street premises this Saturday and Sunday.
The special guests will be former Olympic boxer and current National Regional Development coach Jamie Pittman, and female boxers Kay Scott and Arlene Blencowe.
“Jamie is going to be running a coaching seminar on both days for any of the boxers who want to have a go,” Mr Swadling said.
“Kay Scott and Arlene Blencowe are going to do some rounds and some sparring.”
Mr Pittman said he is looking forward to coming out to a regional area that is dedicated to developing boxing and getting young people interested in sport.
“It is really good that Nathan is getting so many young people and other people involved in sport,” he added.
“I’m happy to show guys some displays.”
The demonstrations will be a good opportunity for people to see what elite level boxing looks like up close. They will also get to see some of Bathurst’s own title-holding boxers take on the challenge.
“Mitch Stevens will be jumping in and doing some sparring with Jamie,” Mr Swadling said.
“Bel Meier, our other title holder, is going to be jumping in to do some rounds against Kay and Arlene.”
Moving to a new location is an important step for boxing in Bathurst, according to Mr Swadling, because it will give participants access to better equipment and more training space than ever before.
It will also present more opportunities for local boxers to fight for titles.
“If we can win titles with one punching bag and a driveway, with more [equipment] we are going to be a force to reckon with,” Mr Swadling said.
People will be able to sign up to join the gym on both days of the opening.
