The terminal gate price for fuel in Sydney sat at 104 cents per litre yesterday, with prices for unleaded fuel advertised for as a low as 116.7 cents per litre in Bathurst, several cents cheaper than they were at the beginning of January.
A spokesperson for the NRMA said that while motorists in Sydney were experiencing better prices than those out west, it would only be a matter of time before fuel prices in the city began to climb.
“The average in Sydney is 111 cents per litre and the average in Bathurst [on Sunday] was 119 cents per litre,” the spokesperson said.
“We should see prices continue to fall [in Bathurst], but not at the same rate as in Sydney because they are in the down part of their price cycle.”
The NRMA predicts prices will fall at a steady rate as the global factors that influence prices are currently “working in the motorist’s favour”.
Local motorists are encouraged to shop around for the best price before filling up at the bowser.
As of yesterday, the best price for unleaded fuel was advertised at the United petrol station on the corner of Durham and William streets for 116.7 cents per litre.
The United also offered the best price for e10 in Bathurst at 114.7 cents per litre.
Those who fuel up with diesel can pay as little as 113.9 cents per litre at either Metro at Perthville or at the Caltex petrol stations on Bentinck Street, Stockland Drive or Pat O’Leary Drive.
Residents who spot a cheap petrol price are invited to share them on the Western Advocate Facebook page as part of the Pump Action community campaign.
