Speedcafe reported the man had been operating a ride-on lawnmower at Forrest's Elbow when the incident occurred.
He was reportedly cutting grass verges at the circuit in preparation for the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour when he lost control of the vehicle.
It was further reported the man crashed into a concrete wall and was thrown from the vehicle.
He was treated by paramedics for unspecified injuries at the track before being transported by road to Orange Hospital.
News of the accident spread quickly as drivers were undertaking final preparations ahead of Friday's opening practice session.
V8 Supercar driver David Reynolds, who will race for Erebus during the 12 Hour, tweeted a photo (pictured above) of the accident scene.
The crash occurred on the notorious Forrest's Elbow, a sharp, steep left-hand turn that leads on to the long Conrod Straight.
It is the same corner where V8 Supercar driver Chaz Mostert had a severe accident during last year's Bathurst 1000 qualifying.
