Not only was the entire race telecast on free-to-air television in Australia, it was also streamed online.
The assembled field was one of the strongest ever and included 11 manufacturers, drivers from 15 countries and a record eight former Bathurst 12 Hour race winners.
And viewers from across the world tuned in, many leaving their thoughts on the official Bathurst 12 Hour Facebook page.
“Awesome to watch this race with an extremely good streaming feed in South Africa. Thanks so much guys,” Mariska Lizebeth Luijk posted online.
In Germany, Horst Frank compared the Bathurst 12 Hour streaming to that of the recent Daytona race.
“Very close race, good streaming performance here in Germany also,” he wrote.
“Motorsport events from all over the world, like last week’s 24 hour Daytona race, in real time right in the living room.”
Viewers in the USA, meanwhile, also praised the online streaming.
“Racing fan in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. Only learned of this track a couple years ago. Great race, great online stream,” Daven L. Donald posted.
“Watched it streaming from Arizona, USA. As endurance races go, I think Bathurst ranks up there with Le Mans, Sebring and Daytona,” Chris Soltesz wrote.
Final race results also delivered for many of the overseas fans, with international drivers featuring in the top three teams.
In first was the team of Shane van Gisbergen (New Zealand), Jonathon Webb (Australia) and Alvaro Parente (Portugal) in the #59 Tekno Autosports McLaren.
Just 1.2 seconds behind in second place was the #1 Nissan Motorsports Inter-national entry, driven by defending winners Katsum-asa Chiyo (Japan), Rick Kelly (Australia) and Florian Strauss (German).
In third was the #10 Bentley Team M-Sport’s team of Matt Bell, Steven Kane and Guy Smith – all from Great Britain.
Final online and free-to-air results from the 12 Hour will be released later this week.
