One hundred and fifty of the shiniest, best-cared for SS Commodores in the country gathered on top of Mount Panorama to be admired and judged worthy of the badge.
This was the third annual Bathurst Show And Shine held by the NSW branch of the SS Owners Club.
Club co-president Mark Hooshmand said the club had 1000 members, and people travelled to Bathurst from Queensland, Victoria and all over NSW for the event.
The club had been running for three years and Mr Hooshmand said it was a very family-oriented group of enthusiasts.
A camera crew from the Blokesworld television show did a lap of the circuit filming yesterday as club members lined the fence and cheered.
While yesterday was the main show and shine day, many club members came for the whole weekend, staying at Rydges Mount Panorama and enjoying the city’s attractions.
The club tends to come to the city a couple of times a year because, as Mr Hooshmand says, Bathurst is the mecca for all SS Commodores.
“The mountain calls us,” he grinned.
Mr Hooshmand said the show and shines were an opportunity for SS owners to meet up with like-minded people.
“All these people are showing off their family cars – it’s their daily drive,” he said.
“You take the car you drive around every day, shine it up, and put it on display.
“These are not cars people keep locked up in the garage. I like that about it.”
Mr Hooshmand said the club also did a lot of charity events and wanted to look at raising money for worthy causes in Bathurst.
“People love coming to Bathurst and we try to spend as much money as we can in the town,” he said.
“A lot of spectators come through to look at the cars.
“We are known as one of the best car clubs because we have absolute zero tolerance for hooning.”
