Sponsors of the Bathurst Young Professionals program came together yesterday ahead of the program’s first official function for the year, a cocktail evening at the Royal Society Cafe.
Kenny Spring Solicitors principal Angus Edwards said the idea for the group was raised about two years ago.
“Back in 2014, after talking to clients and colleagues, the team at Kenny Spring identified the need for greater networking and business opportunities in the Central West for younger professionals,” Mr Edwards said.
“Tired of the ‘brain drain’ to metropolitan areas and the lack of opportunities to develop rewarding, long term business networks within the region, the team agreed to formalise their own networking activities and pull together to create Bathurst Young Professionals.”
Bathurst Young Professionals was born in 2015, comprising a network of professionals and managers from across Bathurst and the surrounding region.
The group is designed to develop networking and cross-referral opportunities available to young professionals in the region, support the ongoing personal and professional development of individuals and expose young professionals in the region to a range of inspirational guest speakers and prospective mentors.
Mr Edwards said regular networking events would feature a guest speaker presenting on a particular topic of interest, as well as time to ask questions, mix with other guests and discuss business opportunities in an informal environment over drinks and finger food.
He said when he came to Bathurst 20 years ago there was nothing like this and while young professionals could now access Facebook and LinkedIn, he believes nothing beats a personal connection.
Mr Edwards thanked the 2016 sponsors including Peak Connect, Rydges Mount Panorama, the Royal Society Cafe, Reliance Credit Union and Kenny Spring Solicitors for their support.
