DESPITE being the form team of the 2016 Under-18 AAMI Regional Championship and coming off a 54-4 trouncing of the Greater Southern Redbacks, Western Division coach Cameron Greenhalgh says his troops aren’t buying into the hype.
They’ve been crowned competition favourites after last weekend’s win at Sid Kallas Oval, but Greenhalgh said the junior Rams will stay level-headed in the face of mounting pressure to succeed.
“They’re not feeling any pressure, they’re pretty level-headed guys and they’re handling it well,” he said.
“They know as well as anyone making finals at this level of football, and potentially winning any of those finals, takes a lot of hard work, so we’ll continue working hard and developing in [Saturday’s game against the Greater Southern Stingrays] and then the semi-finals.”
Western are guaranteed a place in the semi-finals in Dubbo next weekend, but a win over the Stingrays in Bateman’s Bay on Saturday will ensure them top spot in the southern pool.
“I’ve seen a little bit of the Stingrays, watching the video with the boys and at this level they can all play,” Greenhalgh said.
“I think if we stick to what we’ve been doing and play well we should be alright. We started slowly in round one (against the Bidgee Bulls) but got the win and then clicked into gear against the Redbacks last weekend.
“Hopefully we can pick up where we left off in that game [on Saturday].”
The Rams-Stingrays under-18 clash kicks off at 1.20pm at Bateman’s Bay’s Mackay Park.
