The round nine NRL clash between the Penrith Panthers and Canberra Raiders will kick off at Carrington Park at 3pm and tickets are selling well.
Mr Macallister, who is the publican at the Knickerbocker Hotel, was born in Penrith and lived there until he was in his mid-20s.
“I was there in 1967 when they [the Panthers] started,” he said.
Having his beloved team playing in Bathurst the past couple of years has been “sensational”.
“I’m an NRL fan and I think it’s a great initiative that they’re bringing a team out here, and I’m just lucky it’s the Panthers,” Mr Macallister said.
While he says the Panthers and Raiders are both in good form, he is predicting a Penrith win by 15 points.
Unlike last year, the Panthers will hold a number of community events in the lead-up to game day.
The Panthers will visit Eglinton Public School today and hold a public signing/ photo session at Panthers Bathurst from 6.30-7.30pm tonight.
A Sportsmen’s Dinner will be held at Panthers Bathurst tomorrow night from 6.30pm (tickets available at the club).
This is the third clash the Panthers have had at Carrington Park as part of a five-year deal with Bathurst Regional Council.
The Panthers were defeated 18-16 by Cronulla in 2014 and trounced the Gold Coast Titans 40-0 in 2015.
General admission adult tickets for Saturday’s game are $25, children $10, concession $15, a family pass is $45 and a seat in the grandstand is $40.
Tickets can be purchased from the gate on game day, or online by visiting www.bathurstnrl.com.au.
