Carrington Park has been transformed this week. The playing surface is immaculate and a 450 square metres VIP marquee has a 560 square metre corporate deck where guests can watch the game.
Mayor of Bathurst Gary Rush said earlier this week Carrington Park “looks tremendous” and he can’t wait for the match to begin.
Utility player for the Penrith Panthers, Tyrone Peachey said he was looking forward to the match and was confident the team could come away with a win.
Originally hailing from Wellington, the 24-year-old said playing at a regional venue was completely different to lining up at Pepper Stadium.
“It’s totally different, but I love coming back to play in the country, it reminds me of good old country football,” he said.
Peachey, who still has strong ties to the region, said members of his family, including his nan, were coming from Dubbo to watch him play.
“It’s going to be awesome. Nan doesn’t get to come to many of my games, but she usually calls [on the phone] once a week to tell me how I played after each game,” he laughed.
As for the match, Peachey said he was hoping the team played well and came away with a win.
“Canberra will be tough after their 60-6 win last week, but I’m hoping we play well and come away with it,” he said.
Panthers coach Anthony Griffin said he was more than happy with the standard of the facilities and is anticipating a good crowd to watch his side.
“It is a great field. Bathurst is a good town. I like it out here and they have an NRL class facility,” he said.
“From what the mayor [Gary Rush] has told me, ticket sales have been strong and we can expect around 7000 people to watch the game. It might even be at capacity, which I think is about 8000.
“Hopefully we get a lot of support.”
Ticket sales have been incredibly strong; the corporate area and grandstand have already sold out, however, there are still general admission tickets available for the match. For more information go to www.bathurstnrl.com.au. Tickets are also available from Bathurst Panthers and at the gate.
