ALTHOUGH Orange CYMS haven’t fared all that well at Mudgee’s Glen Willow Sporting Complex in the past half-decade, player-coach Mick Sullivan is confident of taking two competition points from the Dragons on Sunday even if his side is down on troops.
CYMS have only won two of their last five games at Glen Willow and travel to Mudgee for Sunday’s round six Group 10 premier league clash without injured back-rowers Kyran Bubb and Brenden Cousins and the suspended Simon Osborne, forcing a reshuffle.
Dom Maley comes into the side in the centres while Brock McGarity shifts into the back-row to cover Cousins, who broke his jaw in last weekend’s draw against Bathurst Panthers.
“It’s good to have someone as versatile as Brock, he’s still got plenty of size and should be fine in the back-row,” Sullivan said.
“I’m actually pretty pleased with the side we’ll be putting on the paddock, having Dom’s experience is a positive as well. Rabs (Ryan Griffin) and Rob Mortimer will come off the bench fresh as well.”
Sullivan said Sunday’s clash is verging on a must-win game, after CYMS let a 16-point lead slip to draw against Panthers.
“We do really want to win this one,” Sullivan said.
“After this game we’ve pretty much finished our away trips apart from between here and Bathurst, so a win would set up us up a bit better.
“We’re a little bit behind where I wanted us to be, only a little bit though.”
Keeping their focus for the entire 80 minutes is paramount for Sullivan and his troops.
“We’ve just been sitting and waiting on our haunches a bit, especially when sides are picking up their second phase play to try and get back into games,” Sullivan said.
“We’ve got ourselves in front and let off a little bit and we haven’t been finishing off those half breaks and that sort of thing, so we’ll try and start finishing those plays off as well.”
CYMS and Mudgee kick-off at 2pm.
