Kristal Thomas has been the first Queen Scout to be awarded at 3rd Bathurst (All Saints Cathedral) Scout Group in 8 years. Her presentation was on the 30thApril 2016 at Government House Sydney, By His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret'd) who is also the Chief Scout of NSW.

To achieve this prestigious award a Venturer Scout must be able to set a goal; plan progress towards that goal; organise their self and others; and maintain the determination to overcome difficulties and complete the task. They must also have achieved the Venturing Skills Award and complete the requirements in four award areas:
Adventurous Activities – demonstrates that the Venturer Scout is challenged in initiative, expedition’s outdoor adventures.
Community Involvement – activities centred on citizenship, community service and caring for the environment.
Leadership Development – involvement in Unit management and leadership courses and studying different vocations.
Personal Growth – self development through expressions, ideals, mental pursuits and personal lifestyle
The Queen scout Award is an Award from the Venturer Scout Section of the Scout Movement, which are scouts from the age of 15-18 years of age. Some previous famous awardees have been Dick Smith and Shane Jacobson. Kristal since finishing her time in the Venture scout part of scouting has moved on the become an Assistant Joey Scout Leader(Scouts ages 6-8) at 3rd Bathurst (All Saints Cathedral) Scout Group, where also her mother is Sandie the Scout Leader and brother Tim now training also to be Assistant Scout Leader.
The Group Leader Mr David McInroy of 3rd Bathurst said “Having a member of Group receiving such as prestigious award show the comment of young people like Kristal to develop their personal growth through community involvement through the scout movement and is fine example to younger sections of the Group. We all very proud of her work and devotion to earn such a high award as the Queen Scout”.
