Westbound lanes carrying motorists through Kelso are to be pulled up in early June, when traffic will be diverted on to two new eastbound lanes between Boyd Street and just east of View Street.

The project team has been working closely with residents and businesses who will be affected by the next stage of the works to ensure there is as little disruption as possible. 

Significant progress has been made on the $85 million upgrade since it started in October 2014, including creating new westbound lanes between Reedy Stone Fruit and Littlebourne Street and putting cables underground to replace all the above-ground electricity and telegraph poles.

The first section of the new Boyd Creek Bridge was completed earlier this year, with the former structure demolished just a few weeks ago. 

Work is now progressing on the final section of the bridge.

Member for Bathurst Paul Toole said Burton Contractors, the company carrying out the roadworks, had done an excellent job so far in making the process as easy as possible for motorists.

“This is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Bathurst electorate and people comment about how pleased they have been with how the work has been carried out with little disruption to traffic,” he said.

“Each stage has been done with minimal disruption and I think everyone is looking forward to seeing four lanes coming in and out of Bathurst in the near future.”

Mr Toole is confident the Burton Contractors team will be able to complete the work by the mid-2017 deadline displayed on project signage.
