The Eglinton 100 development is a 59-lot subdivision.

Lot sizes range from 900 square metres to 971 square metres and council expects they will be popular when they hit the market.

Blocks will be priced at between $155,000 and $165,000. 

Mayor Gary Rush said the lots will be sold by ballot and the draw will take place on Friday, June 24.

He said the registration of the subdivision is expected to occur in July/August 2016.

“Council has had strong interest and inquiry on the development and there continues to be strong interest in residential land sales across the city,” Cr Rush said.

“Council’s previous land release in Windradyne 1000 was popular and only 16 lots remain in the 124-lot subdivision.”

Bathurst Regional Council has created numerous profitable housing subdivisions in recent years, resulting in a windfall of millions of dollars for the city’s coffers.

Cr Rush said the land development program injects valuable revenue into council which is then directed into other areas to fund projects, services and facilities which benefit the entire community.

Under the ballot system, the names of people who register will be randomly drawn and they will then have the opportunity to select the block of their choice. 

Successful applicants will have 21 days to finalise the purchase of a block.

Controversy has surrounded council’s role as a developer, as realtors are unhappy about being cut out of the action. 

Some believe council’s policy of buying and selling land is warding off private developers.

Council, however, is adamant there is still private development taking place in the region.

Lots in the Eglinton 100 subdivision front Cox Lane, Lew Avenue, Templer Way and Fraser Drive in Eglinton. 

The ballot will be held at the council chambers from 10am.
