Number 10 seed Schumacher dropped just six games on her way through to the fourth round where she went down in three sets to eventual runner-up Chorlinda Kang.
Mitton enjoyed a dominant start to his tournament until he stumbled upon second seed Martin Russell, who ended his run.
His sister Gabby contested the women’s main draw, winning her first match before losing to a seeded opponent.
Former Bathurst player Greg Lynch, now based in Dubbo, enjoyed a 6-0, 6-0 win in his opening game before exiting the main draw. He then produced a quarter-final run in the consolation draw.
Alex Mitton also had the bonus of a semi-final appearance in the men’s doubles draw alongside partner Matt Stewart after knocking out the second-seeded duo of Blake Bayldon and Scott Gardiner 12-10 in a super tiebreak.
Tournament co-ordinator Andrew Mitton said there were also good stories to come out of the junior draws for Bathurst players.
“Tayla Brasier finished runner-up in the consolation event. She lost her second round game but made it through to the final of the consolation draw and beat a lot of players who would normally beat her to do so,” he said.
“Josh Wong played in the under 14s boys and he managed to win a match in the open draw. Callum Colwell played his first ever tournament and managed to win his opening match.”
One of the biggest drawcards for the tournament was the former top 150-ranked women’s WTA singles player Monique Adamczak, making her return after a long stint out of the game.
She put on a clinic by winning her first three matches without dropping a single game before withdrawing at the quarter-final stage.
The women’s trophy was taken out by Brooke Winley 6-0, 6-3 over Kang.
“Monique pulled out with a side strain. She’s going over to America for some ITF tournaments soon and she didn’t want to aggravate that by playing any further. That left the field quite open,” Mitton said.
“Chorlinda Kang, who made the final, also did the same for the 16s draw as well, which was a good effort.”
On the men’s side of the draw it was eighth seed Adam Hacimovic who triumphed 6-0, 3-6, 6-0 over third seed Joel Herbert in the final.
Mitton said it wasn’t a surprise to see the lower-seeded Hacimovic take out the title.
“Adam was away for a while and coming back in this tournament. A lot of people would have expected him to make the final. The top seed Blazo Duric lost to Joel in the semi-final in a good match. All four of the guys who made the semis definitely could’ve won it,” he said.
“Adam’s ranking points probably don’t reflect the level of tennis that he’d been playing at. His ranking will certainly come down over time.”
