Councillor Warren Aubin described the latest resurfacing efforts as “a woeful excuse for a fix” after the new surface near All Saints’ College began to crumble shortly after it was laid.
“I drove it after they had done it and I was surprised,” Cr Aubin said. “It was the worst job of road building I’ve seen in a long, long time.
“They’re going to have to do another reseal of that road again.”
The contractors were expected back to resurface the road on Monday, however wet weather prevented them from doing the work.
Cr Aubin expects the work will start next week once the rain has cleared.
As a temporary solution, council staff have filled in a number of holes that have appeared on both sides of Eglinton Road between Esrom Street and Bradwardine Road.
If left in its current state, the road will become a much bigger problem for motorists.
“Once the road starts to deteriorate it goes downhill very quickly,” Cr Aubin said.
Eglinton Road is one of the busiest stretches within the Bathurst district, with more than 11,000 vehicle movements each day.
Cr Aubin said it was important to ensure that the surface of Eglinton Road remained in optimum condition for the safety of motorists and pedestrians, particularly considering its proximity to a school.
Cr Aubin hopes line marking will be improved in the area at the same time.
Those who use Eglinton Road are asked to be patient as the work is carried out and consider using alternative routes where possible.
