But when it comes to raising money for sick children, it’s serious business.
Peter and Graham Ward, along with Richie Farrar, have been helping to raise funds for children with kidney disease for the past 14 years by participating in the annual Kidney Kar Rally and holding fundraisers for the cause.
Their efforts have helped to net somewhere between $600,000 and $700,000 for the charity, and the three are showing no signs of slowing down.
As in previous years they will be hosting a dinner dance at the RSL Club on Saturday to raise funds for the Kidney Foundation.
Mr Farrar’s wife, Stephanie, who helps with the fundraisers, said last year’s dinner dance was incredible.
“It was massive. We had 248 people there and it was a three-course meal,” she said. “Every-one had a great night.
“We had a charity auction which raised over $40,000.”
Mrs Farrar said a lot of planning goes into the event, but said the boys all love being part of the rally and, more importantly, helping sick children.
“It’s just a great fundraiser to be involved in – helping kids with kidney disease,” she said.
As with previous years the evening will include a charity auction with incredible items up for grabs, including a signed State of Origin jumper.
Richie’s brother, Andrew Farrar, manages the State of Origin side, and was able to get a jumper signed especially for the auction.
As in previous years the boys are aiming to raise as much money as possible, so they can build the staggering amount they have already raised for the Kidney Foundation of Australia.
Richie said yesterday that sometimes they look back on what the group have achieved and can hardly believe it.
“We think, s**t that’s a lot of money,” he joked.
Mr Farrar invited everyone in the community to come to the dinner dance.
Anyone interested can either buy individual tickets or organise their own tables of eight, 10 or 12.
Tickets cost $70 a person and can be booked by calling Richie on 0414 461 791 or Stephanie on 0408 689 336.
