The highway was closed in both directions at Guyong just before 8am after an elderly couple in their 70s turned right out of a driveway to head towards Orange.
A flatbed truck laden with cargo travelling west collided with the back of the tiny, two-door Daihatsu.
The truck was clipped by a navy Suzuki Vitara also travelling west and a third flatbed truck carrying logs travelling in the opposite direction clipped the car and the first truck, crossed onto the wrong side of the road and came to rest on the road verge.
The elderly couple and the driver of the four-wheel drive were taken to Orange Health Service with non life threatening injuries.
Canobolas Local Area Command Inspector Linda Bradbury said motorists needed to drive to the conditions and consider fog or wet sections of the road.
“So if it’s foggy, drive with headlights so people can see you,” she said.
The highway is now open.
