The ongoing investment in the $85 million upgrade of the Sydney Road at Kelso ($20 million in the budget) and the Forty Bends makeover near Lithgow are the two single big-ticket items.
The overall spending of $87.5 million during the 2016-17 financial year just on roads in the electorate is a substantial investment by the NSW Government, according to local MP Paul Toole.
He said on Tuesday there was also funding for the planning, design and selection of the right location for Bathurst’s new ambulance station.
Voters were promised a new ambulance station during campaigning for the 2015 state election but there was no money put aside in last year’s budget.
“This will be done in the coming financial year with the construction phase of this $6 million project coming in 2017-18,” Mr Toole told the Western Advocate.
“The investigations will determine whether this development goes on a new site, a greenfield location or on the present location.”
Mr Toole said the budget further demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving roads and making them safer.
“We continue to chip away at improving the Bells Line of Road with new overtaking lanes,” he said.
“And we shouldn’t forget the $1 million for the new car park at the Bathurst Railway Station ($700,000) and development of the railway museum.
“There is also money to address mobile blackspots across the electorate, but in coming weeks I will be making further announcements as to what else will be heading our way.”
Parliamentary Secretary for Western NSW Sarah Mitchell said the budget delivered a “historic commitment for vital infrastructure and services to support growth across western NSW”.
She said the NSW Government was investing in the schools, hospitals, roads and transport the region needed.
