This year’s Great Race may still be more than four months away, but racing’s faithful are flocking to attend.
There are eight dedicated camping and motorhome areas around the iconic Mount Panorama circuit, and five are already at capacity.
The booked-out sites are the Paddock, Motorhome Campground, Reid and Sulman, McPhillamy and Max Cameron.
A Supercars Championship spokesman said of the more than 6000 sites, there were only a “handful left”.
“There are 6585 sites total, with around 200 remaining – this is dropping every day,” he said.
“We’re on track to be sold out by the end of the month, which would be quicker than ever before.”
By late Thursday the Chase had only a few spots left, while Enduro and the Harness Racing Motorhome at the Bathurst Harness Racing Club still had availability.
The spokesman said the rush could be due to 2016 being the 10th anniversary since racing legend Peter Brock died.
The King of the Mountain died in an accident while taking part in the Targa West rally in Western Australia.
He was 61 years old and was driving with colleague Mick Hone in a Daytona Coupe.
This year will also mark the 10th presentation of the Peter Brock Trophy that is awarded to the Bathurst 1000 winner.
The inaugural winner of the Peter Brock Trophy was Craig Lowndes (with co-driver Jamie Whincup).
This year’s Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 will be held from October 6-9.
Leading up to, and during the race, the Western Advocate will host a dedicated Bathurst 1000 page at www.westernadvocate.com.au.
