The team at Be Productions, based in Alexandria, has spent the past couple of weeks designing three displays that will light up the CBD nightly from July 2.
Creative director Penelope Kendall said the main display will be the two-minute-long animation on Bathurst Court House.
The theme of the display is fire and ice, which focuses on Bathurst’s ability to have both severe frost and severe fires.
“It is going to be an interesting transition through the narrative of the destructive nature of those two elements,” Ms Kendall said.
“There are lots of really bold, dynamic features.”
The animation will replay throughout the night, with still images being projected onto the building between screenings.
As with last year’s illuminations, the old TAFE building on William Street and Ribbon Gang Lane will have their own displays.
The TAFE building will have an interactive display that is likely to be embraced by people of all ages, but children in particular.
“There is going to be a really cute snowman on the building and people will be able to use their phones to log on to a website and throw snowballs at him,” Ms Kendall said.
Meanwhile, Ribbon Gang Lane will celebrate the Bathurst community by involving school- children.
Artworks that have been created by local children will be projected onto the building so people can see the city through the kids’ eyes.
Complementary lighting will be used around the CBD to create a beautiful ambience for people at the festival.
Ms Kendall said working on the illuminations for the second year of the festival has been a fun experience for her team as it combines a lot of the services they provide into one project.
“The first night, it is a very special one,” she said.
“It will be great to have a big crowd there watching the animations.”
The Bathurst Winter Festival will be held from July 2 to 16.
