However, even though the campaign has come to an end they hope people will continue their vital support of Daffodil Cottage.
The committee has been working for the past 18 months and has achieved well in excess of its target of $600,000. In fact a total of $734,000 was raised to allow for the extension of the cancer care cottage.
Treasurer Robert Rawlings said this is a great tribute to the people of Bathurst and surrounding districts.
“They have been so unbelievably generous,” he said.
“We have been able to put the finishing touches on the building which has retained the essential flavour of the cottage as being homely, warm and kind, a place in which patients can have their cancer treatments and consultations with a oncologist,” Jane Rawlings added. “The staff has grown immensely and we are now able to offer a variety of services such as nutrition, light exercise and social welfare advice.”
However, the cottage will always need the continuing support of the community to meet the ongoing costs of maintenance programs into the future.
Mr Rawlings said the committee would like to thank everyone who contributed.
“But please don’t forget Daffodil Cottage because it will still need your support,” Mr Rawlings said.
“The cottage has ongoing projects which require funding so our efforts will by no means cease completely.
“We will always need to receive donations for the cottage’s continued operation.
“Our thanks to the Western Advocate for its energetic encouragement and support of Daffodil Cottage both now and in the past, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the paper in the future.”
