Staff arriving at work in the CBD were greeted by the sight of a huge crane towering over the rink and the frame of a small marquee starting to take shape.
One factor Bathurst Regional Council cannot control, however, will be the weather over the two weeks the ice rink is in operation.
May will remember that Bathurst was blessed with two weeks of bright blue skies during last year’s inaugural winter festival so while the temperatures were low, families had no hesitation rugging up and coming out to enjoy the fun.
Looming rain could see this year’s festival test the community’s resolve, though Parade would encourage everyone to still take part. Bathurst has been crying out for this kind of festival for years and it’s up to all of us to support it now it’s here.
Don’t let winter scare you off – join in the fun on the ice.
THEY’RE ON SONG AT ALL SAINTS’
FOR lovers of fine music there will be some wonderful performances at All Saints’ Cathedral over the coming weeks.
They will kick off with a recital by violinist Attilla Sautiv and pianist Oleg Poliansky. The concert will start at 2pm with pieces by Chopin, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, as well as works by Bach, Paganini, Gluck, Kriesler and Bazzini.
As if that weren't exciting enough, on Friday, July 8 the Choir of Christ's College, Cambridge, UK will be performing from 7.30pm.
The choir is considered one of Cambridge's finest mixed-voice ensembles. The choir's repertoire embraces sacred and secular music from the 15th century to now.
SAME, SAME … BUT A BIT DIFFERENT
SHARP-EYED readers will notice that the Western Advocate looks a bit different, along with our Snapshot and Parade column.
What’s important, though, is that Parade and Snapshot will continue to appear on page 2 so if you have any contributions please send them to mail.westernadvocate@fairfaxmedia.com.au.
