Nathan Turnbull picked up second with Sams The Master at Menangle.
Turnbull briefly took the lead coming into the final 200m but could only watch on as Gold Chalice runner-up Charlaval swooped home late to take the win.
Sams The Master still maintains a strong career record of 15 placings in 18 starts after Sunday’s runner-up finish.
