Sellers, who held a NSW cruiserweight belt until a controversial split decision loss recently in Lithgow, was out of his depth in many regards at the prestigious carnival given the size and experience of his opponents.
But one thing he's never been short of in his brief career is heart, and he was forced to show plenty of that on Saturday.
"In my first fight I drew a very experienced fighter - he'd had over 40 bouts before this one," Sellers said.
"I was pretty happy with my performance and pushed him the whole way but in the end I got pipped in a pretty close decision - he definitely won, but I took one or two rounds from him, so at that stage I was out of the tournament, or so I thought.
"It turned out he got an injury in the fight and broke his hand - probably from hitting my face too many times.
"That meant I had the chance to go through instead and fight for a gold medal, but it also meant I was fighting in super heavyweight, two divisions higher than what I am used to."
Sellers, knowing he didn't have the punching power to match such a big opponent, tried to use his superior speed and out-box his opponent before piling on the pressure in the latter rounds.
He absorbed a bit of punishment in the first two rounds before upping the ante, but he still had to settle for an honourable defeat.
He said he was proud of his efforts and determined to continue progressing, something he has done with the help of the Dreamtime Sports Academy.
"I have never boxed a rhino before but I would guess that it would feel similar to the second fight," he said.
Sellers’ next challenge, he said, is to try to drop a class to light-heavyweight and organise a fight in Blayney, hopefully for another state title.
